Camping is a great hobby and a fun pastime for many people. It can be very relaxing to get in touch with nature and spend a few days in the desert or woods enjoying nature. You can still enjoy a good cup of coffee even if you are away from home.

Your choice depends on how many people will be drinking coffee, and also on how much space you have available to pack. The type of coffee maker most people use on camping trips is the manual drip coffee maker, since it requires no electricity. The filter and filter holder sit directly on top of the cup or pot. Some models might need to be placed on a portable stove or on the ashes of the campfire to heat the water to a boil. There are even a few models of automatic drip coffee makers that are now manufactured with the camper in mind. They are larger than manual drip machines, so they are definitely not for the remote camper. They also require a camp stove.

You might want to choose a manual drip coffee maker instead. These come in a large assortment of shapes and sizes but are made to withstand uneven campfire heat. Some of the high end ones are made of stainless steel and they are all-inclusive. They usually look like one coffee pot set upside down on another. You usually place the coffee in the middle and the water in the bottom compartment of the machine. You let it reach a boil and then remove it from the heat, flip it over and set it somewhere to cool off. The flipping process lets the water slowly drain through the coffee grounds resulting in freshly brewed coffee for everyone.

You might also want to try the filter holder method. You take a filter holder, put in a filter and add your coffee. Set the filter holder over a cup or pot and then slowly pour boiling water over it. This is a great method if you don’t need to brew a lot of coffee and don’t want to pack around heavy equipment.

Your local sporting store or a seasoned camper can give you the best advice on the type of coffee maker you should purchase for your next trip. There are many to choose from. Also, most department stores have a camping isle you can visit to get an even clearer idea.
