Popular Mexican Salsa Recipe: Salsa Taquera

The Mexican salsa recipe known as salsa taquera is served at literally almost every taco stand inside of Mexico. The combined creation of the Mexico City street vendors, this salsa has evolved over the years and made it way into just about every corner of the country today such that whenever you pull up to a taco stand anywhere in Mexico, you can be reasonably certain that you will find salsa taquera somewhere in the place’s salsa bar!

Right up there with salsas verde and roja, salsa taquera is another one of the very popular salsa used to dress up authentic Mexican tacos. My Mexican neighbor tells me this salsa is so big in this country that the big Mexican grocery companies Herdez and Del Monte now make their own brand of salsa taquera, so you can just buy it when you’re not in the mood for making your own.

This is an easy salsa recipe that is versatile and can be used on virtually every kind of taco there is. I’m assuming that you’re going to use a blender to make this, which is going to be both faster and easier. But if you really want to make this salsa the traditional way, you can break out the ultimate traditional cooking tool: the molcajete, and grind your ingredients up with the pestle and mortar to make your salsa taquera. With that said, it’s time to make this delicious Mexican salsa recipe!

Cooking Time: about fifteen minutes

The Ingredients for this Mexican salsa recipe:

10 green tomatillos, 2 cloves of garlic, 6 chipotle chiles (or just 3 if you’re new to spicy chiles), 1/8 cup white vinegar, 1 chile serrano (serrano pepper), 2 cups water, 1 tbsp black pepper, 1 tbsp dry oregano, 1 tbsp salt, 2 small roman tomatoes

How to cook it:

Put your roman tomatoes and the tomatillos together in a pot with your water and heat them until boiling.

After they’ve boiled, drain and add to blender.

Add rest of ingredients in the list to the blender and then let it work its mixing magic to complete this Mexican salsa recipe.

And you’ve just made your authentic Mexican salsa recipe! Now you can dress your favorite tacos in this and give it an additional layer of delectable flavor. This simple Mexican salsa recipe goes great with carne asada and tacos al pastor, but it can be used with almost any authentic Mexican recipes you’d serve a salsa bar with. I think you’ll love this salsa, and if you do, you’ll likely also enjoy trying other authentic Mexican food recipes! Enjoy!
