Easy Mai Tai Recipe For Every Occasion

The Mai Tai recipe is loved by many, especially rum lovers. This drink was invented one day in a restaurant in Oakland, California. When a man known as Trader Vic has a sip of this tasty drink, he shouted “Maita’l roa” which means “simply too good”, and thus, the Mai Tai was born.

You’ll always find the Mai Tai offered in Tiki-themed bars and restaurants or at Tiki gatherings. This drink was quite popular in 1950′s and 1960′s, especially after it’s appearance in the movie, called Blue Hawaii, starring Elvis Presley.

Tikiphiles will follow the traditional recipe when making a Mai Tai, as created by the inventor, Trader Vic (Victor J. Bergeron). However, you will find many other delicious variations.

This rum based drink is often made with tropical fruits and fruit juices. This additional gives it the Hawaiian feel.

For example, you can add pineapple juice or orange juice to this cocktail making it even more tropical. These additions sway from the original recipe.

You will often find people on vacation or at pool side parties enjoying the Mai Tai drink. And since 2008, a chain of smaller Mai Tai bars have opened up across the country that originate from Trader Vic’s chain of restaurants. These fun hangouts serve appetizers and tapas and of course plenty of Mai Tai’s. You will also find people at pool parties or on vacation drinking Mai Tai’s.

There are many different ways to prepare this fun cocktail. Here is one that I like in particular. Garnish with a beautiful flower for an even more Polynesian style. I like to serve it with chunks of tropical fruit on a skewer.

Ingredients:

* Small sprig of fresh mint

* 2 ounce rum over shaved ice

* 1 oz. orange Curacao

* Fresh lime juice

* ounce of French Garnier Orgeat Syrup

To prepare the Mai Tai Recipe:

The rum should be poured over shaved ice in a tall glass.

Add the fresh lime juice to the mixture.

Mix ingredients well in the glass or use a cocktail shaker.

to make this drink extra special, garnish with fresh mint leaves or a flower and serve with a fancy straw.

Serve immediately.
